I have one brother, Dale, a year older than myself. He is a neurologist with a home in Pebble Beach near Monterey in Central California. His wife Dana, appears with him in the clickable photograph on the slopes of Kilimanjaro. Their two latest children, Aaron and Moshe, are seen in a series of family photographs taken during April and May, 1999.
My two parents live in the community of Encino in the San Fernando Valley just north of Los Angeles. My father is a physician at Kaiser Permanentee with subspecialties in Nuclear Medicine, Hematology and Oncology. My mother has a Masters degree in the humanities and has taught high school English. She is a certified flight instructor (CFII), with multiengine, commercial, floatplane and balloon ratings. Until quite recently she was the owner and operator of a flight school at Van Nuys Airport. My parents are observant Jews and this background has had a profound influence on my personality and general outlook.
Professional Degrees
B.S. Chemistry, University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) , 1981.B.A. Biology, University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) , 1981.
Master of Science Chemistry, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor MI, 1985.
Ph.D. Theoretical Chemistry, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor MI, 1989.
Field of Research
Until quite recently my work involved the implementation and validation of currrent scientific methodologies for incorporation of solvation effects with the continuum approximation. The aim is to obtain realistic simulations of molecular interactions without the high CPU cost of an "explicit water" simulation.

Ultimate Climbing Objective
To scale Denali (Mt.McKinley, Alaska, 20,320 feet) by West Buttress route. Although this route is technically of moderate difficulty, Denali is notorious for life threatening weather including temperatures well below zero F and winds often above 100 MPH, even in the middle of June when the sun shines for 22 hours and it never really gets dark.
Currently are twenty tiers stacked as a triangular pyramid and composed of 1,540 pints. As of April 6, 2005 I have enjoyed 1,598 pints of ice cream (some as novelties and quart, half-gallon sizes) since November 1987.
