The Bruce County Astronomical Society sponsors the Bluewater District School Board Science Fair with The Dr. Herb Coleman Memorial Award (in honour of our deceased club member).
DR. HERB COLEMAN MEMORIAL AWARD
Criteria – Outstanding project in astronomy, space science or a related discipline as judged by representatives of the Bruce County Astronomical Society
Eligible Categories – Intermediate and Senior
Awards: sponsored by the Bruce County Astronomical Society ~~
Intermediate -$25.00 plus a certificate and a one year membership to
the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada
Senior - $50.00 plus a
certificate and one year membership to the Royal Astronomical Society of
Canada
The First Year of this award was at the 2003 Bluewater District School Board Science Fair.
One of our club's stated intentions is to promote interest in matters astronomical amongst the public. Dr. Coleman has generously donated his 8-inch Meade telescope and observatory dome to the School Board {which paved the way for the club's formation and location} which will be permenently housed at the Outdoor Education Centre. By sponsoring the prize, we will give effect to this end as well as provide a public remembrance of Dr. Coleman.
