Two aspects of philosophy:
GENERAL OUTLOOK
One sort of 'Site Philosophy' covers the nature of the site. Only
wholesome external sites are linked to, and this site is unlikely to offend
anyone of any age who isn't offended by science itself.
Though many currently well-established views are challenged here, it is not
done lightly, but with a certain breadth of knowledge and experience.
Strangetruther is much stuffier than might appear, and fellow green-inkers
tempted to email me on certain topics are urged to consider that I have few
"new-age" beliefs, don't belive in ufo's, telepathy, psychokinesis,
spoon bending, out of body experiences (genuine, as opposed to apparent or
dreamed), and am a dyed-in-the-wool evolution believer.
'PHILOSPHY' PHILOSOPHY:
At various points in this site it is claimed that certain issues are or aren't
'explained', and that the explanations certain theories make, add to their
value. Some may consider this 'bad form', claiming that theories
should really be about predictions that can be checked.
The "Secondary Flightlessness" theory I espouse does make predictions, but it
also offers explanations, and these do two different jobs.
Although the explanations may say little about
whether the theory is right or not, once the predictions have done their
work, we have some justification in saying the explanations are valid
additions to our understanding.
It might be worth adding that, as Lovelock, originator of the "Gaia" theory
says, people don't actually pay much attention to the philosophy of science
anyway, not even scientists, even when we want them to. (And who's to say
they're wrong?!)
