I began my research into the Woodnutt family history several years ago. My maternal grandmother's maiden name was Woodnutt. Her Father, Albert Rufus Woodnutt had been born in Jersey and came to Ireland with the Royal Engineers. He married twice and spent the rest of his lift there.
I had not gotten back any further than his father Daniel Woodnutt, when I started to put some of my research up on this Website earlier this year. Through the website I was contacted by Mary Jean McGuinness, who together with Melody Tailor (both Woodnutts, but from different Families) had done extensive research into the family, based on foundation research done by Sally Stuart, her sister Mary Horak and daughter Jennifer Long, and has passed a lot of information to me.
I have still to incorporate most of this new information into my own notes and eventually post it on the Website.
The original name was WODENOTE on early 1378 records from IOW. In the north that name was also used but also WOODNOTH and then later WOODNETT. There are also WOODNOTTs roaming around that could be connected to IOW and then in 1500's found themselves in Lewisham.There are now seem to be about 8 other families with the name Woodnutt, but each remaining unconnected at present.
