Maiden Flight Checklist By: Peter Spink
RADIO
- 1. Gold sticker
- 2. Check frequency is clear
- 3. Battery charged
- 4. Trims neutral
- 5. Switch settings normal
INTERNAL
Servos
- 1. Secured in tray
- 2. Tray secured to fuselage
- 3. Screws & rubber grommets not too tight
- 4. Servo arm screws tight
- 5. Servo arm centered
Push rods
- 1. Ensure securely fastened
- 2. No bending, slop or binding
- 3. Quick connector retainers secure
- 4. Security ring on clevises
- 5. Check elevator, rudder & nose wheel throws & neutral position
Receiver
- 1. Battery charged
- 2. Electrical connections secure
- 3. Padded and secure
- 4. Battery padded and secure
- 5. Aerial routed straight and away from servos
- 6. Aerial strain relief
Tank
- 1. Foam wrapped
- 2. Secured from moving backwards in flight
- 3. Pressure pipe goes to top of tank
Engine
- 1. Securely mounted
- 2. Throws correct - idle and full
- 3. Propeller correct size
- 4. Propeller - sand edge
TAIL SECTION
- 1. Securely attached to fuselage
- 2. Tail wheel securely attached
WING
- 1. Warps or defects
- 2. Alignment & incidence with tail plane
- 3. Alignment with fin
- 4. Minimal gap between aileron & wing
- 5. Hinges secure but flexible
- 6. Aileron push rods, clevises & throws
- 7. Aileron neutral & throws
- 8. Number of elastic bands & replacement policy
FINAL CHECK
- 1. Check balance point - C.G.
- 2. Check all flight controls for correct direction
- 3. Radio range check with antenna collapsed
- 4. Engine break-in
- 5. Engine adjust - high and low for smooth idle and transition to full throttle
- 6. Pre-flight check
