Welcome to the Simsbury High School Engineering Team's Homepage!
At Simsbury High School, students have the opportunity to participate in three state-wide and nation-wide engineering competitions:
TEAMS!
Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science (JETS, TEAMS) -
Under the direction of Mr. Gewanter, students travel to the University of New Haven to compete against many teams from high schools across the state. Of three Simsbury High School teams sent to the competition, SHS recieved a first and third place trophy in Connecticut's large school division, the largest of all divisions.
NEDC!
National Engineering Design Challenge (NEDC) -
Under the direction of Mr. Fastiggi and Mr. Avery, students in this competition join forces to design and construct a working prototype of a device that solves one of societies problems. In 1995, SHS placed first in Connecticut and fourth in the nation. In 1996, SHS again placed first in the state and was a national finalist.
USFIRST!
U.S. For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (USFIRST) -
Under the direction of Mr. Fastiggi and teamed up with engineers from Ensign Bickford Industries, students design and construct a robot to compete nationally against over ninety other teams.

The students at SHS not only compete at the actual competition, but also during the off season. Students work to raise money in order to fund the entry fees and the travel expenses to and from the event. Our efforts include:
Although our efforts raised a good deal of money, it is not nearly enough to cover the costs of these three competitions.
