Looking for information is what we do
most on the net. If I have to recommend only one web search engine I'll
recommend a new site for searching webpages weighted by quality of links to
the webpages, www.google.com. I explains my web search strategy and other good
web search engines here.
If I just want to browse around for general information on PC and the Web I tend to frequent Wired group of websites or CNET group of websites.
For me here in
Malaysia, the route to the net, goes through Jaring
the premier ISP in Malaysia, currently with about 120,000 dialup users. The
other main ISP in Malaysia is TMNet, though I
only use TMNet for backup to my Jaring account. To debug the slow internet
connections frequently encoutered, traceroute
is one of the best tool.
Many of the media companies in Malaysia are now on the net. One of the best is The Star Online.
Recently I analyzed the trend of PC Prices in Malaysia for the years 1998 to 1999, based on the advertised prices of MTEC PCs in the weekly Star Intech pullouts.
One of the neatest technology for removable media is Iomega Zip Drives. Though lately Iomega has more
competition for archival purpose from new media such as CD-R.
I am also a
keen user of PDA (Personal Digital Assistants) such
as Psion Series 5 and Casio E10 palmtops.
After serving for 10 years as a civil engineer in JKR's computer centre, I moved downstream to be end-users of computers designing roads. That was an interesting 3 years I spent at Road Branch of JKR.
Since June 1997, I've moved on to doing design management at ERLSB. We are the concession company that is
building the city centre airport link from KL to KLIA (KL International
Airport).
Klang is my hometown, and hence this website includes a number of panorama of Klang town, and other local attractions. The valley formed by the Klang river, Klang Valley, is one of the major area focus for construction in Malaysia
At some stage in the future you may be able to read from the web my outlook calendar on ERLSB intranet. And even perhaps make appointment via the web.
