Becoming a Pilot

So, you say you want to become a pilot?  Well, on average, it takes about 50-60 hours of flight time to get a private pilots license.  it costs around 5,000 dollars.  Those are just a few of the requirements.  If you are interested, you can find much more detailed information at bepilot.com

Used Aircraft
Don't want to build and aircraft?  There are many good aircraft on teh used market.  Prices range from about $15,000, to well over 300,000 dollars all depending on how new they are, how big they are, and how fast they are.  If you are bying a used airplane, one thing to consider is how many hours until SMOH (Shop Major OverHaul)  on the engine.  Obviously a plane with an engine about to need an overhaul will be cheaper than one that just had an overhaul.  Some good spots to find planes would be
Wings Online, Aircraft Shopper Online, and Airplane Exchange.  There are also quite a few books with alot of information in them.  I amde a listing with many of them here.

Kit Aircraft
If you want a barnd new aircraft rather cheap, you like working with your hands, then building your own aircraft may be the way to go!  Kit planes are classified as
Experimental Aircraft that you build yourself.  You can buy kits ranging from sport planes, to family cruisers, to WWI replecas, to STOL (Short Take Off and Landing) aircraft.  Kits range in price from a few thousand dollars to over $100,000 dollars, but you can usually find a nice play to buy for around $20,000 to $40,000.  The best site for kit planes would definetly be the Homebuilt Homepage.
