1947 Willys CJ-2A
Here is my fully restored, 4x4 Jeep. Four years of sweat and eblow grease
went into restoring my jeep and now I have a toy that I am pretty tickled with.
The Jeep is serial number 84811 and I completed it around August 1997. I have
put quite a bit of work into it--see the list of what I
have done to the jeep. My Jeep is now my baby after spending the hundreds
of hours that I haveput into it. I enjoy taking it camping and using it to
take me to trail heads to go mountain biking, but I am too nervous to use it
off-roading.
The Jeep used to belong to my Grandpa, and I came into possession of it since he passed away. It sat out in the rain for seven or eight years and a nearby barn bubbled the paint when it burned down. Needless to say, it has taken a lot of work to get it running again. I only wanted to make it nice enough to drive around in without being laughed at, and now I estimate that my Dad and I have spent about 700-800 hours working on it.
This last summer, I drove it around town several times. More often, I simply wax and polish the beautiful body to keep in nearly pristine condition. It really should get more use with how much time has been put into it, but it is my baby and I want it to last for a long time.
The process of restoring has taught me about automobiles in general, and a few specific tips about Jeeps. I have taken a few of my favorite idea and posted them here. Check out the list for a few ideas on how to make it easier to restore your jeep!
