Storm Chase Tours

I have done extensive research through web pages and email from customers of several storm chase tour groups. Here is a summary of the results that I have found.

There are four main storm chase tour groups currently.

Cloud 9 Tours

Silverlining Tours

Tempest Tours

Storm Chasing Adventure Tours

Cloud 9 Tours has been in operation the longest of all the tours. I have heard nothing bad about Cloud 9. They are very knowledgeable and have a lot of fun on the tours. Most tourists want to return year after year. Many of the tourists have come back many times.

Silverlining Tours is also very reputable. They are more “Technical” and have a good education as well as great chasing. They are very professional.

Tempest Tours is the newest group. They began operations in 2001. They are very professional and also offer a good storm education with their chasing.

Storm Chasing Adventure tours has had many problems. I have not heard to many good things about them. Beware! They have many false claims on their web page. I have learned that this year they did NOT see tornadoes on 5 out of 6 tours. Actually only one tour saw a small distant tornado that few people saw. Their high tech gadgets don’t overcome their lack of knowledge and often break down. The Weather Channel is on all the time. It can get annoying and is not that useful. That is their claim to having real time weather data 100% of the time. Beware of their claims and question them before signing up.

In any case, contact the tour companies and ask for references. You will be spending a lot of time with these people and you want to have a good time and get your moneys worth.

Stay safe and happy chasing!
