Jefferson River Brown

Salmo Trutta  Smith River 60Mile Float
It was a clear and bright February day in the canyon area of the Big Hole.  The ice was 2 to 3ft thick along the banks of the river as I snuck to its edge.
I cast straight across and began a slow retrieval.  As the fly nearly reached the edge below me I felt a heavy yank, I returned the favor and hooked'em.  The mighty fish ripped and pulled as I slowly coxed him to the bank.  Landing the beauty I took this picture then slipped him back in one of the best rivers Montana offers.
