"In the beginning ..."

The Bible states, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." (Gen. 1:1) But nowhere does He say WHEN this beginning was! Most ASSUME that it was only six thousand or so years ago, but no one has any PROOF of that. Since the Bible says to prove all things, such an assumption is suspect.

According to ancient Jewish tradition, God created the universe about 15 BILLION years ago. According to current scientific theory, the universe is about 15 BILLION years old! Now HOW did the ancient Jews come up with the same exact time for the beginning as the modern scientists of today? Did those Jews know something that we don't?
