UMBANDA - UMA RELIGIÃO BRASILEIRA

A palavra Umbanda, segundo o grande pesquisador Cavalcanti Bandeira, autor da obra “O QUE É A UMBANDA”, é originária da língua Quimbundo, e encontrada em muitos dialetos Bantus, falados em Angola, Congo, Guiné.

UMBANDA – Arte de Curar (de kimbanda – curandeiro).

Embora ainda não codificada, a Umbanda tem um rito e um ritmo que lhe são peculiares, e que sofrem pequenas alterações de um para outro Terreiro. Em sua origem, participam valores de três culturas principais a saber:

Cultura Européia, através do Catolicismo e do Kardecismo;

Cultura Africana, através do elemento escravo, e a;

Culturas Vermelhas ou Ameríndias, através dos habitantes originais da terra, a quem impropriamente chamamos de índios, que o branco tentou escravizar.

Concluindo :-A UMBANDA É UMA RELIGIÃO ESPÍRITA, RITUALIZADA, DE ORIGEM EURO-AFRO-BRASILEIRA.

Em 1908 foi registrada a primeira incorporação oficialmente conhecida, pelo Sr. Zélio F. De Morais, que incorporou o Caboclo das Sete Encruzilhadas e deu início aos rituais de Umbanda em sua residência.

Meu primeiro contato com Umbanda foi como cliente, num momento de grande desespero. A Mãe Lurdes de Oxum (D. Lurdes do Seu Zé) foi a pessoa que me ajudou e me deu este gostinho por continuar.

UMBANDA – A BRAZILIAN RELIGION

The Word UMBANDA, according to the book “O QUE É A UMBANDA”, of Cavalcanti Bandeira, derives from Kimbundu idiom, and we find it in several dialects of Bantu groups, as Angola, Congo and Guinea.

UMBANDA – means the art of healing (from kimbanda – the one who makes heals).

Although it has not yet a specific code, Umbanda has peculiar rites and rythm, and suffers small changes from house to house. In its origin we can found three main influences of different traditions:

EUROPEAN, through Catholicism and Kardecism AFRICAN, through slaves AMERINDIAN, through original inhabitants, wrongly called indians, which the Portuguese tried to turn into slaves.

Conclusion: UMBANDA IS A SPIRITUAL RELIGION, HAVING ITS OWN RITES, WITH NA EURO-AFRO-BRAZILIAN ORIGIN.

The first official incorporation of a spirit was registred in 1908, when Mr. Zelio F. De Morais “received” the spirit called Caboclo das Sete encruzilhadas, and began to make Umbanda meetings at home.

My first contact with umbanda, as a client, was through Mother Lurdes d’Oshun, at a very problematic moment of my life. She gave me the interest in studying and following Afro-Brazilian religions.
