Okay, so I'm not really that old, but I am definitely pre-Generation X.
To give it a technological perspective, as a child I can remember when:

  • the first ball point pens made inkwells obsolete;
  • the TV cabinet was bigger than the screen;
  • transistors were the hottest new technology;
  • stereo sound replaced Hi Fi as state of the art;
  • there was no litter on the moon;
  • and there were no skateboards, video games, microwave ovens, mobile phones or
    PERSONAL COMPUTERS

    As a young man, I lived for many years with no electricity or running water in my high desert adobe. I was already middle-aged when I began teaching, and the students had to show me how to turn on the computer. Now, I'm still learning from the students here in Thailand who have introduced me to HTML.

    Obviously, what I'm trying to do here is preempt criticism and evoke sympathy by making excuses for myself. So...
