A SPECIAL COURSE FOR YOUNG BUDDHIST MARRIED AND COMMITTED COUPLES
Living together as a couple is always seemed beautiful and romantic movies and love songs but in reality such relationships often end up in separation or divorce. However, there is hope for a good and happy relationship with proper skills in communication and self-mastery through meditation and other important Buddhist practices. This program is designed to explore some fundamental skills to help guide the development of a meaningful and happy relationship.

The program will cover the following areas, depending on the duration of the course, the depth will vary.

A. Self-exploration

The very foundational strength of an interpersonal relationship is the ability to relate to oneself in an "intra-personal". We find this area key in the overall and long term development of replacement. The basic aspects covered in this program will be:

  1. Communication Skills
Next, is having the ability to express oneself and understanding our partners. The essential solution here is effective communication. The core of any relationship lies in the way communication is carried out. The way we communicate with one another reflects greatly one's mental attitude and psychological set-up. In the first area, we will examine the following points in communication:
  1. Handling Conflict
Lastly, having understood ourselves and building up skills and creating the environment for positive communication, the testing ground is making our skills help resolve conflict. Key areas to be covered in this program will be

METHODOLOGY

This course adopts the practice-based approach where workshops and hands-on exercises are used. Short discussions and seminar-style approach will also be used. For longer-term duration, home exercise will be recommended and encouraged.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Married couples, couples intending to get married and couples who are serious and committed in their relationships.

DURATION

Customizable depending on availability of time. Shortest session is a one-day program. Longest stretching for several days over a period. Here are some suggestions:

  1. One day Program (9-5pm)
  2. Two day program, non-residential
  3. Three-session program, 3-day program over a period of three weeks, ideally every weekend for three weekends.
  4. If time and resources is not easily available, a customized program can also be tailored.

FACILITATOR

The facilitator of this program, K V Soon is happily married and a father of 2 children. He had been an Assistant Registrar of Marriages (in Malaysia), a counsellor and a social worker for over 8 years. He is also involved in social development and educational programs for students and young adults. The founder of TransEducation, KV Soon also co-authored the popular book "Love and Marriage - A Buddhist Perspective". He was also an active Buddhist speaker and currently a part of the Think Sangha under the auspices of INEB.
