L.I.S.T. (Librarians and Information Specialists of Topeka) promotes cooperation among Topeka libraries and the use of library services by residents of Topeka and surrounding areas. As one of its projects L.I.S.T. has produced a guide to periodical holdings at area libraries. This guide, produced in paper copy by the generosity of the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce, is available at most libraries.

COLLECTION: FamilySearch, a computerized database, contains genealogical information on over 200 million individuals, family groups, and major genealogical indexes and catalogs. Much of the information is also available on microfiche, and on the Internet at http://www.familysearch.org Center also contains additional records and indexes on microfiche and a small collection of genealogical reference books. Patrons have access to the over 1.6 million cataloged reels of microfilmed records from over 100 countries found in the LDS Church's Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Microfilm may be borrowed for a nominal cost. Genealogical supplies are available, some at no cost. 

ACCESS TO COLLECTION: Anyone may use the library on the premises. All materials must be used on the premises. Only materials from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City may be borrowed. Computer printouts and copies of materials in microform can be made at modest cost.

COLLECTION: Over 125,000 books, over 215,000 pamphlets, over 25,000 periodicals and near 2,000 clipping volumes in the subject areas of Kansas, genealogy, Native Americans, the West, Civil War, Kansas state documents and U.S. documents. Special collections: Paul Parish World War I; Carrie Hall Lincoln collection; textbooks; Ramsey, Campbell and Mannen genealogical collections. Newspapers: nearly 80,000 reels of microfilm and nearly 72,000 bound volumes of Kansas newspapers. State archives, including Kansas census records; limited local government records; manuscripts; maps; photographs; and audio-visual collections. 

ACCESS TO COLLECTION: Anyone can use the library on the premises, but the stacks are closed to the public. Interlibrary loan of Kansas newspapers and many other microfilmed holdings.

COLLECTION: 8,000 books and 300 journal subscriptions on nursing, pre-clinical sciences, history of medicine and related specialties, hospital administration and management. Collection also includes gifts on these subjects. 

ACCESS TO COLLECTION: We will circulate to employees and students of our corporation. Anyone can use the collection on the premises. A coin operated photo copy machine is available.

TOPEKA GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY LIBRARY

Library hours are posted on the door at the Library location. Incoming phone messages are recorded when the library is not open. 

COLLECTION: 6,000 books and 700 periodical titles. Computer assisted searches are available. 

ACCESS TO THE COLLECTION: This is primarily a membership based library. Member categories include: Individual - $20.00; Family - $23.00; and Sustaining - $30.00 or more. With membership, there is use of the TGS library with a 4 week check-out privileges for books and bound periodicals. Individual membership, limited to check out of 4 items; family membership may check out 8 books/periodicals at a time. Non-members have use of the library with a nominal donation fee per visit; however, no check out privileges. 

Many other privileges to members.

COLLECTION: Print and non-print materials appropriate to age level of school students and balanced by the school curricula and student interests. The District Media Center houses a collection of books and periodicals dealing with all aspects of education and library science. 

ACCESS: Anyone can use collection on premises. Will circulate to patrons of the USD 501 school district. Photocopying facilities available at high schools and the District Media Center. We will accept interlibrary loan requests.
