Pursue Your Passion

Directions:

Choose a subject or topic that interests you. You will explore this area in greater depth than usual, meet people who share your interest, practice research skills, read literature related to your subject, create a story based on your topic and share your passion with your classmates.

SELECT THREE (3) OF THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES RELATED TO YOUR TOPIC

A MENTOR:

This is an adult who shares your passion for the subject you selected. You will interview this person and discuss your subject with him/her at length. Your mentor may also help you find some of the other requirements. You may want your mentor to be a guest speaker on your subject. (To complete the interview requirement, you may write up the questions and answers, videotape or tape record the interview or invite the speaker to the class.

Poem

Find two poems related to your subject. Look for a poem that expresses feelings similar to yours on the subject or one that expresses contrasting feelings or firsthand information. Then write a poem (or song) on your chosen subject. (Turn in three poems, two from published sources and one your wrote. Poems may be typed or handwritten and they may contain illustrations or clip art.)

A FICTIONAL STORY:

Read a book or story related to your subject. Write a one-page summary of the story. Tell the entire story in your summary.

A NONFICTIONAL STORY:

Find a least one selection related to your top. This might be a newspaper article, an essay, an excerpt from a nonfiction book, etc. (Turn in a copy of this selection.)

ARTWORK:

Find a painting, print, drawing, sculpture, clip art related to your copy. Make a copy of it. Then create your own detailed artwork. You may create a computer picture or use various mediums including watercolor, magic marker, chalks, paint, colored pencil, lego, or clay, (Turn in two artworks ņone by you and one from a published source.)

RESEARCH:

Use three (3) different sources to get information on your topic. You may use the Internet, CD ROMS, encyclopedias, books, magazines, etc. (Turn in notecards with information from three different sources. Be sure to label the source on each notecard.)

All students must present an oral presentation between 10-20 minutes long. Show each project you completed from the above list. Share your passion with the class and let us feel the excitement.
