The Edge of Heaven  

   George Michael was born in Finchley, North London, England on the 25th June 1963. He was born to a Greek Cypriot Father and English Mother.      

NEWSFLASH!!!  

• It has been reported in 'The Sun' newspaper in England today (17/02/98) that George is postponing any tour dates for this year. The article says that George is still too distressed over the death of his mother and can not bear the thought of leaving his family for such a long period of time. The official line from George's spokesman is that George is very busy and has not yet had time to arrange any dates.
   

George started his first real band with the formation of The Executive early in the 80s.
This didn't last too long until George and a pal of his from school named Andrew Ridgeley formed what was to become one of the most popular bands in the world - WHAM!

WHAM! split in 1986 with a 'final' concert performed in front of 72,000 people at Wembley Stadium in London. From there George went solo. His first album was entitled 'Faith'. It sold 14,000,000 copies world-wide and made George into a Superstar.

George released SIX singles from 'Faith' and became the first artist to score FIVE Top Ten hits from one album in America.

George later released 'Listen Without Prejudice' - a much smoother, acoustic sequel to 'Faith' which was the beginning of George's quest to be regarded as a respectable songwriter. In comparison to 'Faith' its reception was poor with some saying that George was taking himself too seriously.

Perhaps due to the poor sales in America, George attempted to terminate his contract with Sony Records. This resulted in a long legal battle with George threatening never to record again. Eventually, after several years, George was released to a consortium made up of Virgin Records, DreamWorks and AEgean (George's own independent label). The public finally received a new album entitled 'Older' - which George certainly was after his protracted legal battle.

Well, really it's for me to amuse myself! As I become more acquainted with HTML I'll try and add extra bits to the site such as MIDIs and articles I've collected. In the meantime all I can offer are a few songbirds (Sorry!), but hopefully these will be helpful to some of you. Enjoy what you can !!
