The Pilgrims came from England. They came to
America for freedom of religion.
During the first winter, 47 out of 102 Pilgrims died. They landed in
November. It was too cold to grow food. The Native Americans gave
them food. They taught them how to grow food and how to build houses.
The
Native Americans and the Pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving.
The party lasted three days. They ate five deer, turkeys, fish,
beans, squash, corn soup, cornbread, and berries. The First
Thanksgiving was held in November, 1621. They felt lucky to be
together.
