In this day, history can be as a bard tells it. It can be exaggerated or told simply. In this case, there is no true history, for it was a time long ago and nobody has found proof that any of these marvelous events ever happened. The book "History of the Kings of Britain" by Geoffrey of Monmouth was originally conisdered a historical source, but his references to the magician, Merlin, disproved that theory quickly. Nobody knows if Arthur even existed, although there are several finds that say he did.
