Everyone wants to be famous. Everyone wants their name in the paper with a long write up about how great of a person they are and telling all they have done for their community. Unfortunately, you have to be dead for them to do that....it's called an obituary.
MARTIN LUTHER WAGONER (Bloomington, IL Pantagraph June 14, 1969)
Colfax (PNS) - Martin Luther Wagoner, 81, died at 6:30 am Friday at St. Joseph's Hospital, Bloomington. He was a retired farmer.
His funeral will be at 1:30 pm Sunday at Colfax Christian Church, the Rev. Joel Duffield officiating. Burial will be in Wiley Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 o'clock tonight at Harper Funeral Home.
He was born in Marion County, Ind., Dec. 12, 1887, a son of James and Alice Rybolt Wagoner. He married Neta Johnson Feb. 16, 1910, in Bloomington. She died April 15, 1964.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Irene Carter and Mrs. Leona Burk, both of Colfax; two sons, Carl 1507 E. Oakland Ave., Bloomington; and Harry, Colfax; a foster son, Jap Hale, Decatur; a sister, Mrs. Lola Phillips, Colfax; six grandchildren; 12 foster grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
Mr. Wagoner attended the Christian Church.
The family has suggested that any expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to the church memorial fund.
DAVID DUANE CARTER (Bloomington, IL Pantagraph Oct. 24, 1995)
SAYBROOK - David Duane Carter, 34, of Saybrook died at 8:55 am Monday (Oct. 23, 1995) at St. Josepeh Medical Center, Bloomington. Death was attributed to natural causes. He was taken to Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Saybrook.
MRS. NETA WAGONER (Bloomington, IL Pantagraph April 6, 1964)
Colfax (PNS) - Mrs. Neta Wagoner, 74, died at 11:10 pm Wednesday after a lingering illness.
Her funeral will be at 2 pm Saturday at the Christian Church at Colfax with the Rev. Lewis Chamberlain and the Rev. Ross Bracewell of Minonk officiating. Burial will be in Wiley Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-5 and 7-9 pm Friday at Harpers Funeral Home.
She was born Sept. 4, 1889, at Colfax, the daughter of J.T. and Martha Bradford Johnson. She was married to Martin Wagoner, Feb. 16, 1910, at Bloomington.
Surviving are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Irene Carter and Mrs. Leona Burk, both of Colfax; two sons, Carl 1507 E. Oakland, Bloomington; Harry, Colfax; one foster son, Jap Hale, Pontiac; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, eight foster and step grandchildren.
One brother and one sister preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Christian Church.

EDITH IRENE CARTER (Bloomington, IL Pantagraph April, 1994)
Colfax - Edith Irene Carter, 83, of Colfax died at 7:54 am Thursday (April 21, 1994) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.
Her funeral will be at 2 pm Sunday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax, the Rev. Stephanie Curran officiating. Burial will be in Wiley Cemetery, Colfax.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Saturday at the memorial home.
She was born Feb. 16, 1911, at Colfax, the daughter of Luther and Neta Johnson Wagoner. She married Homer Carter on April 24, 1929, in Lewistown. He died July 21, 1953.
Survivors include two sons, George Carter, Saybrook and Duane Carter, Bloomington; one daughter, Helen Andreae, Sibley; two brothers, Carl Wagoner, Bloomington, and Harry Wagoner, Colfax; one sister, Leona Burk, Panacea, FL; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Two grandsons preceded her in death.
She was a lifelong Colfax-area resident and a Colfax High School graduate. She was a member of the Colfax Christian Church and the Hustler Society of the church.
She worked for Wichman's Produce in Anchor for eight years; at the Holiday Inn in Bloomington for 10 years & at Octavia Manor Nursing Home, Colfax, for 14 years.
Memorials may be made to her church.
LESTER L. CARTER (Bloomington, IL Pantagraph May 3, 1974)
Lester L. Carter, 66, of 803 Four Seasons Road was dead on arrival at 2:30 pm Thursday at Brokaw Hospital.
Mr. Carter was a railway clerk for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. He retired last may after 29 years of service.
His funeral will be Monday at 11 am at Metzler Memorial Home, with the Rev. Samuel Buck officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Carter was born Jan. 30, 1908, in Colfax, a son of George and Ida Carter. He married Hannah Hughes on June 27, 1932, in Bloomington.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Carl N., Chicago, and Delmar L., Riverside CA; three sisters, Miss Geraldine Carter, 19 Country Club Place; Mrs. Margaret Blankenship, Washington, and Mrs. Lola Furry, Springfield; two brothers, Marvin, Downey, CA and Lionel, Evanston, and a granddaughter. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
He was a member of Park United Methodist Church, the Carl S. Martin Post American Legion, the Rebekah Lodge, the Brotherhood of Railway-Airline and Steamship Clerks, the Oddfellows Lodge and the McLean Encampment Lodge. He was a veteran of World War II.
EUGENE WHEELER (Bloomington, IL Pantagraph Nov. 20, 1986)
Eugene E. Wheeler, 67, of 821 E. Monroe St., Bloomington, died at 10:45 am Wednesday (Nov. 19, 1986) at Brokaw Hospital, Normal, after a long illness.
His funeral will be at 11 am Friday at Metzler-Froelich Memorial Home, the Rev. Bert L. Lancaster officiating. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm today at the memorial home.
Mr. Wheeler was born Feb. 10, 1919, in Padua, McLean County, a son of Lester A. and Lula Mullin Wheeler. He married Virginia L. Johnson on July 5, 1945, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Judy Carter, 1505 Wilson St., Bloomington, and Diane Wheeler, 8 Harry Drive, Bloomington; two sons, Glenn, Portland, OR and Randy, 711 S. Clayton St., Bloomington; five sisters, LaVerne Sutter, 1004 N. Linden St., Normal; Lucille Broderick, 805 E. Market St., Bloomington; Ila Granacher, 30 Northmeadow Village, Normal; Mary Myers, 501 E. Front St., Bloomington; and Charlene Miller, 824 S. Bunn St., Bloomington; three brothers, Larry, 207 W. Chestnut St., Bloomington; Paul, Palatine; and Wayne, Indianapolis, IN; and four grandsons.
Three brothers preceded him in death.
Mr. Wheeler attended Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a machinist for The Eureka Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1980, and was a member of the local Machinists Union.
HARRY H. WAGONER (Bloomington, IL Pantagraph Feb, 2001)
Colfax - Harry H. Wagoner, 85, of Colfax died at 5:35 am Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at Gibson Area Hospital, Gibson City.
His funeral will be 10:30 am Monday at Colfax Christian Church, the Rev. Dan Jassman officiating. Burial will be in Wiley Cemetery, Colfax, with a flag presented by the Colfax American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Sunday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax and for one hour before the services Monday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Colfax Christian Church.
Mr. Wagoner was born Sept. 30, 1915, at Colfax, a son of Luther and Neta Johnson Wagoner. He married Dorothy Fay Schneider on April 16, 1936, at Lexington. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Larry (Cindy) Wagoner and Ricky (Melody) Wagoner, both of Colfax; and a sister, Leona Burk, Beaudette, Minn.
Also surviving are three grandsons, Cpl. Robert Wagoner, Cherry Point, NC; Jason Wagoner, Normal; and Brian Wagoner, Colfax; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
Mr. Wagoner was a lifetime Colfax-area resident and graduated from Colfax High School. He was a member of the Colfax Christian Church where he had served as treasurer and deacon.
He served in the US Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He had served in Europe where he took part in five major battles.
Mr. Wagoner was a member of the Colfax American Legion Davis-Kerber Post 653. He also had spent many years as a volunteer fireman and had served on the Colfax City Council.
He spent most of his life working in grain elevators both in Colfax and Anchor. He retired as manager of Anchor Grain in 1967. He later farmed from 1969 to 1995.
Harry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was deeply devoted and committed to his family, a friend to all and will be sadly missed.
MARTIN ANDREAE (Bloomington, IL Pantagraph Nov. 3, 1986)
Sibley - Martin J. Andreae, 22, of 113 N. Franklin St. died at 6:15 pm Saturday (Nov. 1, 1986) from injuries received in a car-tractor collision on the Anchor blacktop.

His funeral will be at 11 am Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sibley, the Rev. William Hecht officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery near Sibley.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm today at the Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, and an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
He was born Oct. 10, 1964 in Gibson City, a son of Ralph and Helen Carter Andreae.
Surviving are his parents, Sibley; three sisters, Elizabeth West, Paxton; and Rebecca and Christy, both at home; his maternal grandmother, Irene Carter, Colfax; and a niece.
Mr. Andreae had been a lifetime resident of Sibley. He graduated from Melvin-Sibley High School in 1982. He worked at the Gibson City IGA for three years and later worked as a pressman at Rantoul Press.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Sibley.
Memorials may be made to the church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
HOMER MATHIAS CARTER (Bloomington, IL Pantagraph July 21, 1953)
Homer M. Carter, 51, died of a heart attack about 4:30pm Monday while working at the Farmers Elevator in Anchor. He was brought to the Easton Funeral Home where funeral arrangements are being made.
Mr. Carter was born Mar. 9, 1902 near here, a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Carter. He married Miss Irene Wagoner of Colfax April 24, 1929 at Lewiston.
Mr. Carter had been an employee of the Farm Elevator for nearly 12 years. In 1951 he received a bronze plaque in honor of 10 years service from the elevator.
Surviving are his wife, two sons George and Duane: a daughter, Miss Helen, all at home: his mother: four brothers, Lester, Cooksville: Marvin, LA, CA: Lionel, Evanston: Loren, Anchor: three sisters Mrs. Margarette Blankenship, Colfax: Mrs. Lola Bendschider and Miss Geraldine, Bloomington. His Father and one sister preceded him in death.
Mr. Carter was a member of the Christian Church.
