MERCURY |
go back to communications...
Named for the Roman god of communications--well, at least of hand-delivered
missives--this is the first planet out from the Sun. It's cratered, like
much else in our Solar System, and is barren and lifeless. It measures at
about .005
Earth's radius (Earth = 1). As the "messenger of the gods," Mercury is
represented in art and mythology as lithe, winged, and fleet-footed. He
sports wings on his ankles and headgear. Were he a god of the 21st
century, he would probably be shown wearing a portable mike, a headset, and
an electronically-wired space suit. He is always been depicted as
weightless, so he would feel quite at home today.
We use this planet here for mail and a kind of notepad for sharing
jottings of various kinds.
