   LOCATION

Be'er Tuvia High School is located in Israel, in the region of Be'er Tuvia,  not far from the city of Ashdod.  You can get there by the highway from Ashkelon or by driving through the little villages of Emunim and Azrikam.
 
 
 POPULATION

There are about 1400 students in the school, from grade 7 to 12. We also have a staff of 130 teachers and supporting staff (technicians, janitors, secretaries etc.).
The school is unofficially divided into junior high and senior high sections, but the teachers teach in both sections. Thus, the students move smoothly from one section to another, without having to adjust to a different environment or teachers. A few of our teachers have been themselves students in our school, while others are the mothers of some younger teachers. "Intermarriage" is also prevalent, whereby you find "groups" of related teachers.

The students come from the 28 villages surrounding the school, hence the rural character  and atmosphere that typifies it. We don't have the typical problems of drinking, drug abuse or violence, common in  urban schools.

 
 
  FACILITIES
 
One and two-story buildings are interspersed on several green acres and consist of the different rooms of the 48 classes. Each class ranges from 15 to 40 students, the smallest of which are those of the special-ed teachers.  There are three special-ed centers where students with special needs are helped throughout the day.

Chemistry, English, Arabic, History and Geography centers have been added in recent years and are well-equipped with both written material, technical instruments and audio-visual aids as well as computers.

In addition, the school has four computer laboratories, about 20 computers in each, two labs of which are connected to the Internet.  The students have regular access to these labs during school hours, as well as  help and professional guidance after school, for students who are interested or those  who are doing special assignments.

Our library is extensive and varied. It serves the whole region. One can borrow  books, video and audio tapes as well as connect to the Internet. There is a staff of about ten librarians and aides, and the operating hours cater to a wide variety of needs.   The regional council is highly concerned with the educational needs  of the inhabitants and their children, and hence,  invests considerable sums of money to enhance and support the education field.
