Unlike many similar lists, the OsirisList does not suffer from any sort of elitist attitude on behalf of the more experienced members. Although discussions can become 'heated' they are always good natured.
The list is the ultimate resource for anyone wanting to find out more about the People, Language and Culture of Ancient Egypt. The amazing amount of knowledge available means that no matter how simple or complex the question someone will have an answer, or at least an opinion.
Often during the course of the discussion, reference is made to objects which may be unfamiliar to many of the list members. The purpose of this site is to provide a 'message board' where images can be placed for general reference.
Additionally it is also often required to represent sounds used for transliteration. Geoff Graham's standard method used on the list is given here.
