The Church of Epiphany
A letter from Father Jim
The name of this church tells it all. I love it! Epiphany: "to encounter God - to come upon or meet with unexpectedly." This is our most hopeful expectation as we enter these doors each time. The mystery of encounter with God comes to us in many ways and yes, when we least expect it. It could be as we share the cup of salvation through our central act of worship at God's Holy Eucharist. Our Epiphany could happen in the midst of baptism, a joyful hymn, the reading of the Word, the Passing of the Peace, the quietness of prayer, or as we enjoy the beautiful music and architecture of the church.
We are truly those to whom much is given and from whom much is required. Jesus Christ lives today and we are His hands and His feet! We must strive to make ourselves fit and willing channels through which Christ can reveal himself to the world. The Church is the Body of Christ on earth through its members and the Epiphany of Christ is in the vision of ministry held by the church.
We come here, to this beautiful House of God, to be armed with the spiritual strength that results from our corporate worship. Let our vision be always to reach out in love and service to those who may never experience God's loving care otherwise - that they too might find their Epiphany.
Yours in Christ,
The Rev. James W. Mathieson
