This is the miraculous Icon of the Holy Mother of God from Mt. Athos (Iveron Monastery) which is a copy of the original painted by St. Luke.; the very first representation of the Madonna and Child. It has been exuding Myhrr for over 15 years and recently its guardian, Br. Jose Munoz of Chile, but residing in Montreal, was murdered in Athens by two or more assailants. His funeral was at the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Monastery near Albany. He is considered a martyr and no one is quite sure where the icon is at the moment, though the Bishop feels it may return miraculously to Mt. Athos, just as the original was supposed to have arrived there. |
