Jane Minerva Tillotson

Jane Minerva Tillotson was born at Brunswick, Medina County, Ohio on 14 August 1834. She grew up on the farm owned by her parents, Leonard and Mary C. (Thomas) Tillotson in the northern part of Brunswick just below the border with Strongsville, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The Leonard Tillotson farm was located just north and adjoining the farm of Daniel Tillotson, Leonard's brother.

On 2 November 1852 Jane married Daniel H. Francis at Brunswick. (Medina County Marriage Records, vol B, p37ll) Daniel was the son of Darius and Lyntha (Stow) Francis. Daniel died of the ague on 25 July 1854 at Brunswick less than two years after their marriage.

The 1858 and 1861 diaries were written while Jane was a widow and living with her parents. Jane's Aunt Polly Tillotson married John Prichard and moved to Nelson, Portage County, Ohio. Jane visited her on a number of occasions and it was probably when visiting Nelson that she met Belden Colton Linzee (whose sister, Eliza Jane, married Polly and John Prichard's son, John, in 1857). Jane and Belden were married at Nelson on 17 September 1862. The third diary was written in 1864 while they were living in Nelson until they moved to Michigan during 1864.

Jane died of dropsy at Ovid, Clinton County, Michigan on 10 July 1913.
