My branch of the Schneiders is fairly recent to the United States. Both of my grandparents, Otto Joseph Schneider and Anna Josephine Herold, emigrated from Germany after the turn of the century. I have a great deal of information on the Herold side of the family but have only traced Otto Schneider to his own maternal grandmother. [Note: I have since made some progress with the maternal side--Ballwegs] Otto's father, Wilhelm, came from Riedern, a town about 9 miles from Brietenau, where Otto was born. Anna Herold's family had been in Hardheim (about 7 miles in the other direction from Hardheim)since the early 19th century on the paternal side and to the late 17th century on her mother's side.
