Pious Prophets

One may wonder, who are the Prophets in the Islamic Faith? The answer is, many of the same Prophets found in the Old Testament, New Testament, and some Prophets which are mentioned in the Quran that you may not be familiar with.

According to Islam, some Prophets were given the message to deliver to their people (ex. Prophets Adam, Noah, Lot and others) and others were given books (ex. Prophets Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Muhammed and others, peace be upon them all).

*Note: We have also added Mary (peace be upon her), The mother of Jesus (peace be upon him). Although Mary (pbuh) was not a Prophet, she was a very pious woman. She is an honored and respected figure in the Islamic faith, and the only woman mentioned by name in Quran. There is an entire chapter of the Quran named Surat Maryam, which is the the 19th chapter.

This table lists all the Prophets in Islam which were mentioned in the Quran.

Prophets in Islam are revered, respected individuals which were chosen by God to bring His Message to their people.

In the case of Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him), he was chosen to give his Message to all mankind. Every Prophet came to relay the same message to their people, which was to worship God alone, associating no partners with Him.

Islam, is the final message for mankind, complete in every way.

As God mentions in the Quran:
"This day have I perfected your religion for you and completed My favor unto you, and have chosen for you as religion al-Islam. ..."
Surah al-Ma'idah 5:3.112

When Muslims mention the name of any Prophet, out of respect, they make a supplication for them asking that God bestow His Peace and Blessings upon them.

Another way in which Muslims show respect for the Prophets and Messengers of God is they do not draw pictures of them.

In addition, they do not approve of actors portraying Prophets in movies. Muslims believe that it is disrespectful to any Prophet of God for an actor to portray them.
