Our Comenius project 1996 - 1998Comenius Action Plan
1997-98
Part of the European Union's Comenius Project

Curriculum Areas targeted
Once again we will be focussing our efforts upon the German Department
and broadening the impact of the project out through the General Studies programme which
operates within the School as well as involving from time to time the Politics and Economics
departments.
Joint Activities Planned
During the visit made by Mr. W.H.J. Croston and Mrs. M.C.G.Phillips to Liechtenstein and
Lustenau in March, we agreed with the partner schools and our colleagues there to continue
to base our project on the two twin themes of Jugend (Young People) and Politik (politics)
and to compare the situation of Young People in the three countries. We would examine the
issues of the environment, the economy, business and employment, Europe and the Euro, and
the Constitution. This would deepen the topics we have studied in the first year together and
allow the students to communicate on issues which are becoming more and more relevant to
them. We will continue to keep in touch by e-mail, letter writing, essays using information
gained and taped presentations.
Students Involved
The students who take part within the project are from the Upper 6 and Lower 6 (Years 12
and 13) who tend to be studying German, Economics and Politics. The amount of work
individual departments offer to the project depends on how elements of the project fit into
various departments1 Schemes of Work. Students also come from other
´A1Level subject fields depending on their termly choice of General Studies
subjects.
Staff Involved
Mr. W.H.J. Croston - Modern Languages Department / Link teacher at Norwich School
Mrs. M.C.G. Phillips - Head of German / Link teacher at Norwich School
We are the main teachers involved, the above departments and General Studies have provided
a valuable input into our work for the European Educational Project.
Outcomes Sought
- Students and teachers will continue to gain familiarity with the World
Wide Web and e-mail and this will be expanded to another group of students.
We hope to create our own Comenius´Web page with jump off links
to Austria and Liechtenstein. It is currently under construction.
- We are building up an ´Internet library of resources to pool with our
partner schools.
- To gain a current up to date impression of life in Liechtenstein and
Austria.
To deepen international understanding through frequent communication.
- To provide authentic materials for our ´A1 Level students in a variety
of forms.
- To deepen cross curricular links and to provide a further European Dimension
through General Studies.

The Future
Although the project has regrettably come to an end, the German department is now actively researching a way to set up a new project between Norwich School, the Martinus Gymnasium in Linz and a college in Iceland.
