Educational Programs
Certificate Programs:

Computer Aided Drafting (CAD)
The Engineering and Technology Department of East Los Angeles College offers a certificate program leading to employment in industry as a "Computer Aided Drafter."  Successful completion of the required program with a grade point average of 2.5 or better entitles the student to apply for, and upon approval of the department, be awarded a certificate in "Computer Aided Drafting" (CAD).  The program may also lead to an Associate of  Science degree upon completion of additional courses in general education graduation requirements to total 60 units.  The CAD certificate prepares the student for an entry level drafting position in industry.  Electives allow some specialization in fields such as mechanical, civil, piping, structural, architectural and electrical drafting.

All Computer Aided Drafting students must see the Engineering Advisor in G8-127 before enrolling in any courses toward their CAD certificate.  At that time, a specific program of major courses and electives is selected.

Computer Aided Drafting/Design (CADD)

The Engineering and Technology Department of East Los Angeles College offers a certificate program leading to employment in industry as a "Computer Aided Drafter/Designer."  Successful completion of the required program with a grade point average of 2.5 or better entitles the student to apply for, and upon approval of the department, be awarded a certificate in "Computer Aided Drafting/Designer" (CADD).  The program may also lead to an Associate of Science degree upon completion of additional courses in general education graduation requirements to total 60 units.  The CADD certificate prepares the student for advanced employment in the field of design drafting industry.  Electives allow some specialization in fields such as mechanical, civil, piping, structural, architectural and electrical drafting.

All Computer Aided Drafting/Design students must see the Engineering Advisor in G8-127 before enrolling in any courses toward their CADD certificate.  At that time, a specific program of major courses and electives is selected.

Engineering Technology
The engineering Technology Department of East Los Angeles College offers a 42 unit program in Engineering Technology.  Successful completion of the program with a grade point average of 2.5 or better entitles the student to apply for, and upon approval of the department, be awarded a certificate in "Engineering Technology."

Engineering Technology students may also obtain a certificate in "Computer Aided Drafting" (CAD) or in "Computer aided Drafting/Design" (CADD) with a few additional courses.  The program may also lead to an Associate of Science degree upon completion of additional courses in general education requirements to total 60 units.  Also, with additional course work, students may transfer into a Production Technology or Engineering Technology program at the university.

All Engineering Technology students must see the Engineering Advisor in G8-127 before enrolling in any courses toward their certificate.  At that time, a specific program of major courses and electives is selected.

Engineering Technology Transfer
The Engineering and Technology Department of East Los Angeles College offers a complete lower division transfer program in Engineering Technology.  Students who successfully complete the program are prepared to enter a "Production Technology" or "Engineering Technology" program at the university.  With a grade point average of 2.5 or better, the student may apply for, and upon approval of the department, be awarded a certificate in "Engineering Technology Transfer."

Engineering Technology Transfer students may also obtain a certificate in "computer Aided Drafting" (CAD) or in "Computer Aided Drafting/Design" (CADD) with a few additional courses, or in "Engineering Technology."  the program may also lead to an Associate of Science Degree upon completion of required general education courses to total 60 units.

All Engineering Technology Transfer students must see the Engineering Advisor in G8-127 before enrolling in any courses toward their certificate.  At that time, a specific program of major courses and electives is selected.

Degree Programs:

Computer Aided Drafting (CAD)
(Associate in Science Degree)
This program leads to employment in industry as a "Computer Aided Drafter."  In addition to the degree, the student may apply for, and be awarded, a certificate in "Computer Aided Drafting." (CAD) upon successful completion of the program (with at least a 2.5 grade point average) and approval of the department.  The program requires that students complete general education requirements in five broad areas, as well as courses for the Computer aided Drafting major.  This A.S. degree prepares the student in an entry level drafting position in industry, as well as providing a basis for lifelong learning.  Electives allow some specialization in fields such as mechanical, civil, piping, structural, architectural and electrical drafting.

All Computer Aided Drafting students must see the Engineering Advisor in G8-127 before enrolling in any courses toward their CAD A.S. degree.  At that time, a specific program of major courses and electives is selected.

Computer Aided Drafting/Design (CADD)
(Associate in Science Degree)
This program leads to employment in industry as a "Computer Aided Drafter/Designer."  In addition to the degree, the student may apply for, and be awarded, a certificate in "Computer Aided Drafting/Design" (CADD) upon successful completion of the program (with at least a 2.5 grade point average) and approval of the department.  The program requires that students complete general education requirements in five broad areas, as well as courses for the Computer aided Drafting/Design major.  This A.S. degree prepares the student for advanced employment in the field of design drafting industry, as well as providing a basis for lifelong learning.  Electives allow some specialization in fields such as mechanical, civil, piping, structural, architectural and electrical drafting.

Transfer Programs:

Engineering
ELAC offers lower division Engineering University transfer programs,  which can lead to a Bachelor of Science Degree in the following engineering disciplines:

  • Aeronautical Engineering
  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Biochemical Engineering
  • Biomedical Engineering with options in Electrical and Biomedical
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Computer Engineering
  • Electrical/Computer Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronics/Computer Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Materials Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Metallurgical Engineering
  • Naval/Offshore Engineering
  • Nuclear Engineering
  • Ocean Engineering
  • Petroleum Engineering
  • Surveying Engineering
  • Systems Engineering
The latest articulation agreements between the ELAC Engineering Department and Universities urge our Engineering Transfer students to complete their lower division engineering classes at ELAC.  Many ELAC programs are articulated as packages of several courses, requiring completion of all courses in the package in order to obtain credit at the university.  Thus, early transfer is not allowed by some universities, while others do not consider the transferred student to be a Junior under these circumstances.

Due to the high unit demand placed on engineering students at ELAC (and at the universities), they complete only certain areas of the General Education requirements while at ELAC, including:

  • English 101
  • Political Science 1
  • History 12
The laboratory science general education requirements are automatically met through completion of the major courses in Engineering.

All students entering the ELAC Engineering Transfer program must see the engineering advisor in G8-127 prior to enrolling in any classes.  Articulation agreements for each university are reviewed, and a specific program of study is planned to suit each student's needs.

Engineering 2+2 Programs
East Los Angeles College and selected Southern California universities have entered into 2+2 articulation agreements which:

  • Guarantee that students completing the required courses at ELAC will enter those universities as Juniors and will be able to graduate in two years.
  • Guarantee acceptance/articulation of the required ELAC courses.
  • Allow ELAC students to complete a substantial number of their general education units counting toward their general education certification.
  • At CSULA, provides the students an "early catalog date" Elac students who enroll in the 2+2 Program are guaranteed that they will not be affected by later changes in the program at CSULA.
