Theory of Knowledge [TOK] is more than a traditional Philosophy course; it attempts to explore the central questions of knowledge without ignoring the unique challenges within the individual disciplines. In this course, students will consider the validity of knowledge, the means for ascertaining truth, the limitations of reason, the interconnectedness of the disciplines, and the role of spirituality as a means to construct knowledge. Students will define, debate, listen, consider, re-evaluate, and deliberate before communicating their ideas. TOK presents an opportunity for students to reflect on and unify their educational experience, to tie together all the learning they have done to this point. In the process, students will investigate underlying assumptions of various areas of knowledge and understand the limitations of several academic disciplines. Each unit of study in TOK contains several unique questions that serve to direct discussion and study; the units include Art, Natural Science, Mathematics, Logic, Truth, Language, Social Science, and Ethics.
