Jan's Room of Poetry
These are only a couple of my poems that I have written throughout the years.I hope to post more of them as time goes by. Enjoy and please e-mail me any response that you may have. Now that I have said that, take off your hat and stay a while.
A MEDITATION ON WAR
Love to hate,
joy to sorrow;
How long to wait
for no tomorrow?
Wife to widow,
sweetheart to friend;
how long to wait
for life to end?
Life to death,
boy to man;
how long to wait
'till war is banned?
THAT WAS THE FIRST PIECE I EVER HAD PUBLISHED.
ETERNAL LOVE
How many times we have walked
you and i
hand in hand
in the cool of the day
we walked along the beach
when the day was new
and so was the world
we lay in the grass
looking into each other's eyes
mindless of the chains of mortal servitude
reveling in a new slavery
known only to those who love
we stood on stone steps by the
green banks of the nile
and the glory of the sun
set your face aglow
not only the glory of the sun
but of our love
we were conquerors of
all we saw
all we built
so many centuries ago
do you remember
you will forget
as you have before
but i remember
and so must you
when
once more
we walk hand in hand
along the beach
as the day ends
and so the world
there will be no forgetting then
my love
but sleep yet a while
dream of lives we have lived together
dream of me
hold my warm fragrant body
as you sleep
and when you wake
i will be at your side
as i was
my slave
my king
throughout the universe
throughout eternity
in the mountains and canyons of
our hearts
