About the Ilion Civic Band
![]() Dust off your horn and Join Us! The Band is very appreciative of the continued support from the Village of Ilion especially for the new gazebo that was built at the Central Plaza in Ilion! We would also like to thank Ken McCluskey for announcing at all of our performances. He added a very special touch to each performance! Additional thanks to Varnum Harris for filling in as conductor on several occasions and special appreciation to Paul Bork for serving as our regular conductor and artistic director! The Ilion Civic Band has a long standing history that dates back to the early 1900's; first as the Remington Typewriter Band and then as the Ilion Fireman's Band and finally as the Ilion Civic Band in the early 70's. The picture to the right, is from 1947 and features our own Roscoe Reed on Sousaphone (top row - 1st sousaphone on the left). |
The Ilion Civic Band
has a wonderful time performing during the Summer for the enjoyment of
the residents of Ilion, NY and the Mohawk Valley. Under the direction of
Paul
Bork, the band presents a series of evening concerts in Ilion, throughout
the Summer. The band is sponsored by the
Village
of Ilion, several corporate sponsors (listed above) and the New York
Council on the Arts and is made up of musicians from throughout the Mohawk
Valley. All concerts are free and open to the public. Each performance
features a wide variety of enjoyable musical selections.
All rehearsals are also open, and anyone interested in playing is welcome, at any time. To be placed on the mailing list and notified of next summer's rehearsal and performance schedule, or for any other information, contact , Civic Band President. As always, we will try to play some fairly advanced music
in a relaxed atmosphere. Our band is comprised of a variety of musicians
including community members from a large area, music teachers and advanced
high school students, all of whom enjoy playing. Be sure to invite any
friends you know who may be interested in playing with us this summer.
The more the merrier!
