Ecuador Photo Collage All pictures are thumbnails and can be enlarged by clicking on them. The first photo is Quito the capital city which is nestled between two mountain ranges. Quito is at the base of Mount Pinchincha, a volcano which has become active in the last few years.
The early morning sun illuminates 6300m Mount Chimborazo, Ecuador's highest peak.
Locals and tourists.
This was on our climb to the hut at the base of Chimborazo - 5000 m. above sea level. I guess it reminded me of a Bev Doolittle painting.
This was so much more impressive than what the picture shows. Here we were driving along on a cloudy day, when suddenly, looming out of the clouds appears Chimborazo, directly in front of us.
Tourist things to do must include the Riobamba - Huigra rail journey, which travels doown the Nariz del Diablo, providing some spectacular views, especially if you are riding on the roof. Another must is to bike from Banos to Puyo, a roughly 70 km stretch following the canyon of the Rio Pastaza until it empties into the Amazon basin.
