Traveling has always been one of my passions. Last summer, my family and I went on a long trip to visit the Southwest (I am the blonde in the picture above--second from the left). We had a wonderful time and visited many scenic spots. Even though taking my third grade class on a field trip to the Southwest is an impossible dream, I decided to take my class on a "cyberspace" trip to some of the places I visited. Many will never be able to take the trip in real life. This "trip" correlated with several stories in our reading anthology, our Social Studies lessons on the Southwest Indians, and even our Science studies of deserts and landforms such as plains and plateaus. Also, our new South Carolina PACT Test standards require that students have a reasonable knowledge of how to do research on a computer and write reports. This lesson plan lists several places the students may "visit", gives them questions to answer, and provides links to be used for finding answers to these questions.
