Introduction
On the following pages, you will read many interesting stories and tidbits related to Dallastown Area School District. Our Oral History Project is an attempt to preserve a very small segment of the history of the school district. All of the research, interviews, and writing were completed by forty-nine eighth graders in two American History classes. This is not an attempt to write the entire history of the school district. Such a task would be far too intense for students in eighth grade. Instead, our goal was to capture the experiences and memories of a few people who were essential to a specific topic at Dallastown. Oral histories are not always accurate but do provide imprtant information about feelings and impressions.

The objective of the assignment was to provide the students with an oppurtunity to experience history firsthand and to place the local history of Dallastown within the overall context of United States history.

The project began with each student choosing a topic which was of special interest to him. A minimum of three personal interviews was required to gain research on each topic, and various pictures were collected from the interviews and the high school library. All of the writing and editing was completed by the students. Of course, each student's progress was completed at a different degree which gives our project an authentic touch.

I would like to thank the students for the special vigor and effort each put into this project. A special thanks is also needed for the parents who provided transportation to some of the interviews.
