One of the most significant areas of misunderstanding about Jesus Christ and who he was --and is-- arises from not realizing that Jesus was one person who had two natures: the nature of God and the nature of man. So --about 2000 years ago-- the eternal Son of God took on genuine human nature when the baby Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit. If this fact is not kept in mind, then people are prone to believe and to promote false teaching about Christ.

Down through the centuries, biblical-thinking believers have come to understand that Christ's two natures (God & human) are distinct from each other and are not mixed or confused with each other, and yet they are inseparably and eternally united in one person. Along with this, most of the best Christian thinkers have maintained that along with his two natures, Christ had two centers of consciousness (two intelligences) and two wills --the human one being finite and fallible and the divine being infinite, unchanging and perfect.

--With this in mind, let us lay out two columns which compare the attributes of Jesus's God-nature, and then of his human-nature, in order to give us a better understanding of the life and ministry of Christ.

Christ's God-Nature	Christ's Human-Nature
God the Son is eternal - Christ said, "before Abraham was, I am" (Jn. 8:58); as God, he spoke of his divine glory in eternity past, before creation (Jn. 17:5).	Jesus had a beginning - The man Jesus was conceived and born (Lk. 2:7) at a point in time about 2000 years ago. Before this, his humanity did not exist.
God the Son is omniscient (all-knowing) - Being God, he knew all things (Jn. 2:25; 16:30; 21:17).	Jesus' knowledge was limited - The man Jesus learned new things (Lk. 2:52), and in his human mind, he did not know some things (Mark 13:32).
God the Son is omnipotent (all-powerful) - He sustains all the matter and forces of the universe (Heb. 1:3), and holds it all together (Col.1:17).	Jesus the man was weak and got tired - He began life as a weak little baby; he got hungry (Mat. 4:2) and tired (Jn. 4:6), and he needed sleep (Mt. 8:24).
God the Son is immortal (cannot die) - As to his God-nature, he did not die, but raised his human body from death (Jn. 10:17,18); his life is indestructible (Heb. 7:16).	Jesus the man was mortal & he died - His human nature (and body) was crucified and he died for our sins (Rom. 5:6,8). He was raised to prove he is God.
