The real Art of
conversation is not only to say the right thing in the right place
but to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.

GeoCities
Sometimes it's a block party, and sometimes it's just the back
fence. Either way, a great way to meet your neighbors is in
Athens
Chat. Athenians congregate in
Help Chat, too,
helping fellow homesteaders with their home page questions. For a
change of pace
browse
all the GeoCities chat areas.
If chat is new for you, the Athens help site offers a good
overview in the
Chat
FAQ. Look for details and tips on chatting the GeoCities way
in the

Chat Info section.
Talk City
"How does the chicken cross the road?
Java Chicken: If your road needs to be crossed by a chicken, the
server will download a chicklet to the other side."
Talk City is a great
place to chat, because their chatrooms can be entered using whatever
software works best on your system, and because it is accessible to
everyone - even to people who use AOL as their internet provider. TC
chat is Internet Relay Chat, so IRC software such as
mIRC (for Windows) and
IRCle
(for Mac) can be used.
If you don't want the bother of installing software, you can also
chat through your browser using TalkCity's own "EZ Talk" in one of
three flavors,
Lite,
Pro, or
Web. (Tip: Mac
users will do better with "Lite" and best with IRCle.)
You can register a personal chatroom with Talk City and you can
even install an entrance into the room on your home page, like the
one which leads to this registered chatroom, named (what else?)
"Athens."
Translate chatroom jargon with the help of this guide
to
Abbreviations.
Enjoy your stay, and please be a credit to our community while
visiting Talk City :-)

Internet Relay Chat (IRC)
Talk City is just one of many IRC chat servers. Most are joined
together into communicating networks, such as Dalnet and Undernet.
For many people IRC is the chat method of choice, though joining it
it does require some software other than the browser that came with
your computer.
Check these sites: mIRC
(for Windows) and
IRCle
(for Mac) to learn more about what you will need and how to install
and use it. For more information about IRC chat, check
