When the Legends Die is a book by Hal Borland about a young Ute boy left alone after his father and mother die. He is forced into the white man’s world and made to go to school, and abandon his friend the bear. When he gets older he becomes a bronc rider and learns a great deal about life. In the end he returns back to his simple beginnings as a Ute Indian.
