The Homepage Of The 28th Louisiana Volunteer Infantry,
Company I
Welcome to the internet home page of the 28th Louisiana Infantry, Company I, the Calcasieu Tigers. We are a living history association that is a non-profit educational-historical group dedicated to recreating the life and times of the common soldier in the War for Southern Independence, 1861-1865. It primarily portrays an infantry company that was actually raised in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana in April, 1862.
All members are volunteers; men, women, and children from all walks of life sharing common interests and goals. All have a common purpose: bringing to life in exciting and meaningful ways the results of their study of the War Between The States period of American History.
The unit is as nearly an exact recreation of the original company as the present state of research will permit. There is no compromise with authenticity; all materials employed are historically correct and no modern substitutes are permitted.
Clothing of all kinds, weapons, flags and tents are painstakingly reproduced. Likewise, cartridge boxes, canteens, belts and buckles, edged weapons and muskets must be of the period.
In concert with other Union and Confederate living history units, the association recreates in carefully selected settings a broad spectrum of the War Between The States scene. It attends approximately six full scale battle reenactments a year, both within the State of Louisiana and in the nearby states of Mississippi and Texas. The unit also schedules one major national reenactment a year involving up to 15,000 participants. The unit also takes part in living history encampments, ceremonial events, and parades. Individual members are also available to give living history presentations in schools, libraries, and museums.
As important as authenticity is, safety receives the top priority at all times with adherence to strict and rigid firearms regulations.
New members are always welcome. There are no ascriptive requirements for membership. For more information, please contact:
