Here is a group of animals one can find in Australia. Many of them are not found anywhere else. 95% are mammals,70% are birds,88% are reptiles and 94% are frogs. There is an abundance of unusual animals in Australia. To view a picture and information of the animal click on it's name.

Since one's students will not be familiar with some of these animals, it would be great to write the names of the animals on pieces of paper and put the names of the animals in a bag or something and let the students draw a name from the bag to write short report. The student will present the report to the class. Along with the report, the student is to draw or photocopy a picture of the animal. A photocopy would be best but not necessary. A book can be made out of the reports and pictures. The title could be whatever the class decides as long as it pertains to the theme "Australia".

"Australia's National Anthem"

*Advance Australia Fair*

Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free;
We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea.
Our land abounds in Nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In hist'ry's page, let ev'ry stage
Advance Australia fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia Fair."

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands;
For those who've come across the seas
We've boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine
To Advance Australia fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia Fair."

An idea I have for the strine is have the students to make up sentences using some strine. The students could even make up some of their own strine. I feel the students would have fun with the strine. One will have to make up some rules about using and making up strine. The students could do this in groups or individually. Draw a picture of the map of Australia and have the students write a short paragraph using some of the strine they learn. The groups or students will also have to write the strine in our English as well.
