It's a 1980 VW Vanagon, but I call it The Bus. I bought it from this lady that said she had four of them and didn't want to take all of them with her to Arizona, where she and her family were moving. I handed her the cash without even having turned the key, I was so in love with it at first sight. I was in a hurry for some wheels, and it touched my heart like nothing else, so I knew I had to have it. Down the road since then, it's taken me on several Phish tours, including Maryland, New Orleans, and soon to the Everglades for New Years Eve 2000. Why? Phish!
The features on this thing are terrific, including a top that pops up to reveal a foldout bunk bed. The back bench lays down to form a semi-comfy, semi-spacious (!) bed, so all told The Bus sleeps four. There's a sink with running water, a cooler-refridgerator, both captain's chair swivel 360 degrees around to face the back, and tons of drawers and cabinets to store stuff. The owner even threw in her Coleman Stove, which makes some damn good breakfasts on cold mornings like the one above.
Modifications include eyebrows for the headlights, a Bosch 009 distributor and Blue Coil, and a recently replaced crankshaft oil seal.
