Two years ago, a corporation top management underwent 3-day “Fundamentals Organizational Learning”. Since then the management sponsored more of their managers and executives to attend the same 3-day training program. Todate there are close to 200 staff trained on OL. In order to ensure practice and application of the OL tools, a series of OL conventions was organized, about 2-3 convention a year. Business issues were identified and task force formed to apply OL tools on the business issues. During the convention, presentations are made to a large number of the organization members, including representatives from suppliers and customers.
Initial 3 OL conventions were organized on competition basic to add fun to the learning. That is, a panel of judges made evaluated on the best application of OL tools on the business issues. From 4th OL convention onwards, instead of competition, breakout groups were formed to further deliberate on the presented business issues.
Recently in August, 2002, the corporation organized their 6th OL Convention with invitation to this QuaSyLaTic to be the main facilitator during the group conversation after the morning paper presentation.
This write up is to share with the interested parties my observation of the convention and some suggestions for the corporation to accelerate their organizational learning journey.
