Being an account of the newly-acquired lecture hall and offices of the Xaoticians.
The Xaoticians recently acquired the former guildhall of the Dunnikindiver's guild. The Lady's Ward was found to be too stylish for a union of sewage experts, and they are presently looking for something a bit more downmarkets. The Xaoticians made use of an anonymous donation to purchase the run-down hall and offices and redevelop them. The building is large and now highly fashionable, with fractal murals on every suitable wall, and the artist Zaromex, a leading Sect figure, named it Xaos Kollege.
Map Key:
1: Road. Xaos Kollege stands in a smart road in the Lady's Ward, opposite an armourer's shop. You can place it anywhere in the ward you like without changing its basic nature. The road is paved from side to side, and a pavement cafe serves coffee and spirits within sight of the Kollege door.
2: Hallway. A visitor entering the Kollege passes through a pair of wooden door with brass fittings, and walks into this hallway. On the floor is a mosaic in many colours depicting the 'eight arrows' sign of Chaos. The walls are covered by unframed canvases depicting fractals painted by Zaromex using a combination of his artistic skill and his magical prowess. The doors to left and right are wood panelled and labelled with 'Office' on the left and 'Reception' on the right. The end of the hallway is covered by a black curtain enchanted to block sounds during lectures, but at other times it is left open. The ceiling here is 18' up.
3: Office. This room is used by the sect member on duty for general administrative work, such as applications to hire the hall, which is becoming the main source of income for the sect, as other sects flock to such a prominent platform for their views. There are three filing cabinets full of half-finished work here, as each duty officer marks off a drawer or so for his or her work, and they chase up obscure bits of Xaos-Theoretic knowledge in their idle moments. As always, discovery and research are at the forefronts of their minds. The decoration here consists mainly of notepaper with doodles of bifurcation diagrams and turbulence observations on.
4: Lecture Hall. This large lecture theatre is as tall as the whole building (45') and has a vaulted ceiling. Near ground level, there are no windows. About 15' up, a course of tinted frosted glass begins, and between 30' and the vault there is a pair of courses of clear windows. This cost a lot to arrange, but it has attracted much admiration from the Sensates. A wooden podium can be assembled at either end of the hall, and it is 5' high, but normally the boxes that make it up are stacked at one side. Lectures are given here by many sects on such diverse topics as chaos in nature and the benefits of alcohol to the mind. Lectures occur on 60% of afternoons and 25% of evenings. Morning lectures are extremely rare.
5: Reception. This is where visitors to the Kollege are received by a namer, or, if they are lucky, a leader such as Zaromex. The door is usually open, except during vital lectures. A desk fills the centre of the room, and unlike the office this is quite tidy. Canvases like those in the hall decorate the walls. At the rear, a staircase leads up to two floors of posh but underused offices. The Xaoticians are trying to let these out for more revenue.
