Are you sure you're in the right place?
If not, go back to the Main page! NOW! If you're sure you don't want to leave, then... get ready... here this is:
Who I am
Where I studied and now work
My family
My friends
What I like and don't like
My thoughts on life
Okay... I *have* to tell you something about myself... you've risked a whole lot just to get to this page. So, let's add to the little you know about me from my main page:
My name's Rianne, but my full name's Ma. Anna Regina Araneta. I had a hard time writing that when I was a kid, so I stuck to Rianne, which comes from putting Maria and Anna (my first two names) together. I was born on October 30, 1975, and I live in Makati City, in the Philippines.
I graduated from college in June of 1996 and have a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering. If you're more interested in IE than in Dragonlance, then I suggest you follow this link. I'm also teaching at the Industrial Engineering Department of De La Salle University. At the same time, I'm studying for my graduate degree in Industrial Engineering.
I enjoy teaching a whole lot. I've taught courses in statistics, accounting, operations research and engineering economy, among others.
My Dad is Napoleon Araneta and my Mom is Rowena Araneta. If you want to know more about them, then follow this link to my sister's and my homepage. My younger sister is Niña, and she's also really into the 'Net and BBSing. My youngest sister is Rizza and she isn't into computers that much, although she's the future politician.
My group of friends is called The Glider Friends. The Glider Friends is composed of my classmates since freshman year (and then some) at La Salle. Check us out, we're really nice (and cute) people, although most of us aren't students anymore. We have our own homepage, here in Geocities and another at PhilWorld Online.
Obviously, I like Dragonlance and the X-Files. Aside from Dragonlance I enjoy reading a whole lot. I've been reading since I was eighteen months old. Of course, then I was limited to books in big letters like Cinderella and the Little Engine That Could... now it's more of fantasy, science-fiction and fiction in general. The nicest books I've read recently are Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman, The Golden Compass and The Subtle Knife, part of His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman, Isaac Asimov's last sci-fi anthology, Gold, and The Fourth Estate by Jeffrey Archer. I've been reading Doug Coupland recently, and I tremendously enjoy his writing. I also enjoy re-reading The Lord of The Rings. I'm re-reading F. Sionil Jose, and I'm reading Bridget Jones' Diary by Helen Fielding and Alice Munro's Selected Stories right now.
My friends and I go out and play badminton a lot--and no, it is *not* a silly game! If you want to come and join (if you're in Metro Manila, that is), just click here and we'll tell you the details!
I like listening to artists like the Indigo Girls, 10,000 Maniacs (when Natalie was still there), Merril Bainbridge, Anggun, and Alanis (yup, all girls!). But now I'm totally enjoying Barenaked Ladies, Sinead Lohan.
Anyway, I like all of the above and some more, like strawberries, Ricky Martin (since his teeny days with Menudo), Simon Rex, and my cellphone!!! I like Profiler (hey, I do!), Ally McBeal, the X-Files, Felicity, the Disney Channel, Friends (not so much anymore), Jeopardy, Troy Montero!, Brad Pitt, Michael Cade (Sly in California Dreams), Emma Thompson, Chris O'Donnell, Matt Damon, Kevin Smith, Renee Zeilwegger (?), and a whole lot more. Then there're the Jasons: Jason Kidd and the Phoenix Suns, Jason Zamora and the Manoeuvers, and Jason London and his twin bro Jeremy.
I don't like dogs, period, especially jumpy ones, and neither do I like insects very much. I don't particularly like the current government but there's not much I can do about that. I don't like rap or heavy metal music so much, although I can tolerate them, and once in a while really "universal" songs that you can't help but like come out. I hate that there's so much hunger and pollution in the world; I hate that people kill other people.
I think that life is meant to be a healthy balance of duty and pleasure, and I believe that whatever you give comes back to you a thousandfold. I'm not a very religious person but I know that there must be a sense of kharmic balance in the universe. I believe that we must strive to do the best in everything we do, even if I don't apply this most of the time. Furthermore, I believe that we are in this world for a reason, to make it better, and to do good things. At the same time, we're supposed to have loads of fun!!! Did I make sense? Oh, never mind.
