Osquip Talislanta, Bounty Hunter

A Rodian Far From Ordinary

By JF Boivin

Osquip was born to the Talislanta clan on Rodia and grew up in the traditions of his species. However, he didn't have the competitive spirit or the intererest in trophies that was characteritic of his peopele. He wanted to be on his own and earn credits. Lots of credits. Osquip had his chance when Jabba the Hutt came to recruit some mercenaries. At 16, he finally left his homeworld and became an enforcer and bodyguard in the employ of the Hutt on Tatooine.

Osquip had numerous occasions to develop his tracking and fighting skills doing numerous jobs like collecting debts from spacers and farmers, protecting his Master when he was visiting his townhouse in Mos Eisley, or "taking care" of certain beings whom Jabba wanted out of his way. At first, Osquip was working with other Rodians, like Bleedo and Saras Krenin (whom he had a crush on), but he slowly worked his way up towards being more of a lone agent. Osquip seemed to revel in the violence and death that he caused, and he did not want to share that feeling.

Osquip was there protecting Jabba when the Hutt met with Han Solo in Docking Bay 94. Apparently, the Corellian smuggler had just killed Greedo, a fellow Rodian, in Chalmun's cantina. Although the other Rodians were outraged and wanted revenge on Solo, Osquip did not care for the fate of his co-workers, even of his own species. All he really wanted was to get more money, and he wasn't making enough working for Jabba.

Osquip got a taste of real bounty hunting shortly after the Greedo incident, when the Empire put out a bounty on Old Republic hero Adar Tallon. Osquip, along with a few others, was recruited by Puggles Trodd, an associate of the bounty hunters Jodo Kast and Zardra. Together, the bounty hunters located the old man holed up in the old Tusken Fort, but they were thwarted by a group of Rebels.

After that, Osquip finally left Tatooine. He went after the Rebels who almost killed him on Tatooine, not for any bounty but because he held a grudge. One reason he did not make a good bounty hunter is that he took everything too personal. If he was after a bounty and the target irritated him, he would kill them mercilessly, not caring whether the reward was for a live target.

He followed the group of Rebels from one planet to another, occasionally confronting them face-to-face, but most of his time was spent in trying to make a living. Using his great dexterity, he became a very good thief and assassin. He would perform various tasks for anyone, be they Imperials, pirates, civilians or even Rebels. He didn't care as long as he had credits and people to kill.

During his travels, Osquip met a Rodian female named Nylota and they became partners in crime together. Osquip's talents piloting vehicles and starships were very limited, so he and Nylota hired a Wookiee named Ithaqua and a tech named ? to help them. Together, the team would terrorize some towns on planets along the Outer Rim.

One time, they met the Rebels they were after, and Nylota was killed by a Jedi. In rage, Osquip killed the Jedi using some latent Force powers he had. His two companions left him, afraid of what he had become. As he started to use his newly-found Force powers for evil, he became more and more involved with the Empire, helping them to hunt down and kill Rebels for the fun of it.

Salus Corp Stalker Armor
Armor Type: Medium armor Proficiency Group: Medium Cost: 8,000 Damage Reduction: 6 body, 4 head Maximum Dex Bonus: +3 Armor Check Penalty: -6 Speed: 8 m/4 Weight: 35 kg Availability: Rare, military Era: [RE]

This suit was designed by Salus Corporation on Rodia for specific use as bounty hunter armor. The suit has since gained much respect in the bounty hunter community because of its versatility. Two configurations are available – one tailored to comfortably fit Rodians and another designed to fit most generic humanoid body types.

Osquip uses the stock Rodian configuration armor, except for the helmet which he replaced with a scout trooper's. Osquip's Stalker armor has the following features:

Scout Trooper Helmet: Incorporates a Multi-Frequency Targeting Acquisition System which provides a +2 equipment bonus on Search and Spot checks.
Comlink: The scout trooper helmet's built-in comlink has a range of 50 kilometers and can send and receive encrypted messages.
Tangler Gun: Mounted on right arm, the tangler gun fires a triple strand of durawire weighted at each of three ends. On a successful hit, the target must make a Reflex save (DC 25). If the save fails, the spinning wires ensnare the target, the impact of the weights causing 2d6 damage. An opponent can work free of the tangler by making an opposed Strength roll greater than the stun damage of the tangler. An extra clip of five tanglers costs 25 credits.
Duo-Flechette Rifle: Mounted on right forearm armor, this gun fires twin cartridges filled with slivered shrapnel flechettes out of its stubby double barrel. It is a powerful weapon at short ranges, but is not terribly accurate or effective at longer ranges. This weapon uses a 6-shot clip (cost 600). Each additional range increment beyond the first provides a -4 penalty on the attack roll, instead of the normal -2. Flechettes have a 4 meter burst radius, which means that the area of damage is spread to the eight 2-meter-by-2-meter squares adjacent to the center space, and to all the 2-meter-by-2-meter squares adjacent to those squares.
Retractable Blade: Concealed in right gauntlet, the blade can be sprung as a free action. It takes a move action to retract it inside the gauntlet. The Strength modifier is added to the damage.

Weapon Damage Critical Range Increment Weight Type Cost
Salus Tangler Elite 1 Damage 20 Range Increment Weight Type 900
Salus DF-D1 Duo-Flechette Launcher 5d8 20 12 m (4 m) 4.5 kg Slashing 1,200
Retractable Blade 1d6 20 - 2 kg Slashing 500

Yes! Osquip did appear in the movies. He was one of three Rodian enforcers that waited for Han Solo at Docking Bay 94. There he is in A New Hope Special Edition standing behind Boelo.
