The creator of Star Trek, Gene Roddenberry had a revolutionary idea for television in the 1960's. He wanted to get away from the common everyday westerns that were being shown at that time. His idea was to make a show about the future, and space travel.
The networks at that time were not interested in such ideas, believing that Sci-Fi belonged on the big screen, and wouldn't last as a weekly series. Mr. Roddenberry, being determined, pitched his idea at the networks in a way that they would understand. He explained the show as a sort of "wagon train to the stars". NBC decided to view a pilot episode, and the rest is history! Over 35 years have passed and the name "Star Trek" is now a household name in almost every country in the world!
