A shrill cry of battle fills the air as Kaebre lands in front of three soldiers. The soldiers are beholding to the tyrant Taytus. The smell of burnt hay surrounds the trio; for they just came from a now burning farm near the edge of Amazon territory. Blade out, Kaebre stands out in front of their path and eagerly waiting, ready for a fight. Welding her blade expertly she moved, parried, and dodged the three blades just as expertly. In a surprising maneuver, she clashed blades with the one in front, spinning and slashing the man’s gullet. The man, surprised, grabbed at his now squirting innards and slowly stumbles back in the beginnings of death. In fierce anger, one of the last two men swung furiously at Kaebre’s head. Moving with split second timing the blade missed her and nailed the tree behind her. A splash of blood splattered on her arm as Kaebre's back slashing blade hit the man’s throat. The last man, a coward at heart, ran away from his inevitable death. Frowning, Kaebre saddened has she realized the battle was over. Hearing the sound of rolling wagon wheels Kaebre quickly removed the two bodies and the evidence of the recent encounter. Kaebre’s hunch of the contents of the cart would be the remains from the farm that the three soldiers before had just came from. At that thought Kaebre became enraged. Then grabbing her attention the wagon came around the corner, with four soldiers this time. In the back of the wagon was a girl. She appeared very recently abused. Kaebre’s blood began to boil; she charged forth, this time her battle cry was more intense. The man to the right side of the two horses never knew what hit him as a dagger pierced his heart in the second of her appearance from the forest. The fall of the right man made the horses startle and knock down the man on the left side. As the man on the passenger side raised his blade to attack Kaebre, she thrusted upward through the belly, causing her blade hit straight through to the shoulder blade. Kaebre had to take a few steps back to avoid the falling soldier. Grabbing the closest fallen man’s blade Kaebre fought to block the driver’s downward slash. The man who was walking on the left side tried to attack Kaebre from behind. Kaebre seeing the drivers glance behind her, alerted her that someone was behind her. A spinning outward slash saved her from a sword in the back. With steps like a boxer she gained a position to see both men. The sneer on her face did not bold well for those two remaining soldiers. Giving a cry of battle, she charged again at the man on the ground. The easy she dispatched that man with gave her the clue he was an inexperienced boy. Out of pure anger she threw her sword at the driver skewered him up to the hilt. The girl was still shivering in the back. Kaebre knew from experience that this girl was last of her family. Kaebre decided to give the girl a chance to survive and took her back to the hold... |
