The Police reunion tour that nearly was, now will not be at all.

Guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland -- two-thirds of the legendary rock group -- have canceled a joint trek in which they were to perform Police hits with five Latin vocalists trading off the Sting parts in Spanish.

A bone spur in Summers' hand is officially to blame. "They were rehearsing last week in L.A. when Andy discovered he had it," said a spokesperson for Ark 21 Records. "I'd imagine any surgery for a guitarist on his hand is taken very seriously." Summers is believed to be undergoing treatment in L.A. Stewart Copeland

Promoting a 1998 rock en espanol Police tribute album called Outlandos d'Americas, the Crossing Borders tour was to have launched on March 19 at the Universal Amphitheatre in L.A. It was hoped the tour would continue on to Miami, New York, and Chicago before a month's worth of South American dates.

Cynical industry types are certain to think that lack of interest factored into the kibosh. "They can think whatever they like," said the spokesperson. There is also a rumor circulating that two of the main singers could not make it, rendering the tour unviable. Sting

Regardless, the news couldn't have stung the duo's former Police captain much. When asked about Copeland and Summers on Tuesday (Feb. 16) -- before allstar learned of the cancellation -- Sting responded, "Who? Sorry? Oh, yeah." Sting dismissed their collaboration as a "Sting tribute tour." "It's about time, actually," he said, grinning sarcastically. "I'm very happy for them. I'd love to watch it."

Zero gira de los artistas del Rock Latino, que decían que venían para acá... a la verdad que Sting es sendo mamabicho verdad?
